Dr. Simonds is an Emergency Room Physician certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He was a partner in Mountain Emergency Physicians in the unifour region of Western North Carolina serving hospitals in Lenoir, Hickory and Morganton.
He and his wife, Anna Simonds, RN, founded Physician Assisted Weight Loss with offices in Hickory, N.C. (2004) and Durham, N.C. (2008). He and Anna developed the present program used uniformly in both offices which combine instruction in practical dieting, exercise and medications.
Dr. Simonds received his MD from East Carolina University after graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Biology from Campbell University. He was Chief Resident during his residency in Emergency Medicine at Penn State University/York, Pa. hospital.
Raised in Durham, N.C. with his four brothers and sisters, he and Anna now live in Lenoir, N.C. and they have four children and one grandchild. He graduated high school from Cresset Christian Academy in Durham.
He has served his country in the U.S. Army with tours in Korea, Louisiana, and Iraq the latter of which involved deployments in (1)1990 and 1991 for Operation Desert Shield and Storm, (2) 2003 to Southern Iraq in support of Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, and (3) 2005 to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Simonds is active in church and community activities, aviation, vineyard development, competitive shooting and firearms. He holds a ministerial license from the Pennsylvania Ministers Association.
